POSITION SUMMARY: The Georgia BioEd Institute is seeking a computer science undergraduate or graduate intern to work on a database for a small non-profit, specifically in the education space. Utilizing Microsoft excel, initially, we would like to manage contacts and program information. The intern would work with the Director of Programming to develop the system. Position Description The Sr. Scientist is required to complete research and development of micro-fabricated electrochemical glucose biosensors. This work will leverage existing and new technologies, and the Sr. Scientist will be expected to lead the research, introduction, and characterization of such new technologies and processes in support of sensor development. Qualified candidates will have a scientific background with experience in electrochemically –based biosensors. The Sr. Scientist will be expected to work in both a clean-room and scientific lab environment, and will be required to run processes and assays appropriate for development of enzymatic electrochemical sensors as well as guide Technicians in related work. The Sr. Scientist will be responsible for owning (creating, developing, troubleshooting) new fabrication processes/equipment, analyzing data, collaborating with team members, providing technical understanding, and working in a fast moving project with tight deadlines. Position Responsibilities • Participate within multidisciplinary teams to support the development of next generation subcutaneous biosensors • Assume responsibility for developing and testing of new electrode and membrane materials for electrochemical sensors, sensor electronics and test solutions • Support transfer efforts to the manufacturing process, including equipment and process qualification and acceptance, as well as personnel training • Troubleshoot and solve design and fabrication problems as they are encountered in R&D • Work with other Scientists, Engineers, and Technicians to execute experimental designs • Create technical documentation in form of engineering plans, engineering reports, presentations, operating procedures, and white papers
Basic Qualifications • 2-3 years of experience with a Master’s of Science in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field • Educational, industrial and/or hands-on experience of biomedical sensor technologies. • Knowledge in material science or chemistry • Demonstrated abilities to work independently and work within a team-based project environment. • Software skills including MS Office, MS Project and statistical analysis tools • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects. • Report writing experience Desired/Preferred Qualifications • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline • Experience in the scientific area of bio-sensors, ideally in glucose measurement • Thorough understanding of organic and inorganic chemistry, molecular chemistry, and electrochemistry • Knowledge in materials technology particularly thin film coatings, enzyme immobilization, and various methods for their application • Experience with electrochemical techniques, including amperometry, voltammetry, and impedance methods • Strong statistical skills and knowledge • Good soft skills, works well together with a team of other engineers, scientists and technicians • Focus on execution with hands-on, can-do mentality • Results oriented driver and deliverer in a fast paced environment with challenging deadlines the help the company keeping their leading edge • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Innovation & Leadership in Engineering Technologies and Therapies (ILET2) for Diabetes Training Program

Post-doctoral positions are available at the Georgia Institute of Technology under the NIH funded ILET2 postdoctoral training grant program. The positions entail research focusing on treatments of insulin-dependent diabetes and ranging from insulin delivery by microneedles to cell- and tissue-based therapies involving encapsulated islets or islets delivered with materials promoting tissue engraftment. All projects are collaborative between Georgia Tech and the Emory University School of Medicine and have strong bioengineering and translational components. We are looking for candidates with a strong bioengineering background, who are willing to work in an interdisciplinary environment and interact with engineers, life scientists, and clinicians, in making substantial contributions towards the next generation technologies and therapies for treating insulin-dependent diabetes. A unique feature of the positions is that, as part of the ILET2 postdoctoral training program, significant educational and professional development opportunities are provided, as well as cross-cutting exposure to multidisciplinary laboratories and research.
