BBUGS is having its last Tailgate of the season this coming Saturday at the Wake Forest game.  Come out to the IC Quad before the game starts at 3:30, regardless of whether or not you are going to the game. Grilling and beverages provided. Cost: $3 or best offer. As always, RSVP appreciated but not needed. See you at the tailgate!

This email is a little late going out, but that doesn’t mean our enthusiasm is any less! This Saturday, BBUGS will be tailgating before the GT/VT homecoming football game. Regardless of whether or not you will be attending the game, come for grilling, games, and a little fresh air from the lab on one of the last nice days of the season. We will be on the IC lawn starting at noon until gametime at 6pm. The IC lawn is the big green space next to the instructional center between the gym and the student center.

RSVP would be appreciated for planning purposes but definitely is not necessary to attend. Come for the whole time, or come to make a social appearance–we don’t care. See you on Saturday!

We will be fielding a soccer team for Phase II of Fall intramurals.  Games will be played on Mondays at 7pm, beginning October 19th.  Interested parties should contact Brent at brent.uhrig@gatech.edu.

Due to another location being more awesome, tailgating this Saturday has been moved to the IC (instructional center) lawn. We will also start earlier–around 8:30ish in the AM. Grilling, beer, and cornhole will still be there.

To help us figure out how much food and beer to get, it would be helpful if you could reply to this message and let us know if you are coming and want us to provide you with food/beer. Even if you are a maybe, a one-word response will help us plan. RSVP is not necessary to show up, nor is attendance of the football game–we just want a general idea.

Where is the IC lawn, you ask? The Instructional Center is the building across the street from the gym. The lawn where we will be is the big green space behind that.

A mere week after the rafting trip, the BBUGS social committee is at it again–we will be tailgating this coming Saturday before the GT vs. North Carolina football game. It’s an early o’clock game (noon!?), so that means we will be tailgating even earlier. Come join us any time after 9:30am in the quad next to IBB and BME for food, games, fun, and maybe even a morning beer if that’s your thing (does the sun even come up by 9:30am on a Saturday?). You don’t need to be going to the football game to join us for the tailgate.

It’s football season, and of course that can only mean one thing: it’s
time for grilling on the quad. This Thursday, BBUGS will be hosting a
tailgate party before the Clemson game. Anyone is welcome to come, even
if you are not planning on going to the game. We will be grilling
burgers (both beef and veggie) and dogs, and of course we will have
tailgating game staples: ladder golf, washers, and cornhole. Come by
after class, after lab, or whenever you can make it and mingle with your
fellow grad students.

There’s still space on the trip, so we just wanted to send a quick reminder about the BBUGS Whitewater Rafting Trip!

What: BBUGS Whitewater Rafting and Camping

When: September 19^th – 20^th, from 9:00 am on Saturday until 1.00 pm on Sunday.

Where: Ocoee River, Benton, TN – Class III/IV Rapids!

How much: $25 (for non-BBUGS it is $45)

Deadline to RSVP: Friday, September 4^th

If you are interested in this trip, please make sure you RSVP before the deadline (this Friday!) to Katie (mpitz3@gatech.edu).  Payment won’t be needed until September 11^th, but only the first 50 RSVPs will be supplemented, the rest will have to pay full price.

Hey Everyone!

While it may be a challenge to rile up any more excitement than you already have for the start of classes, it’s time to get ready for BBUGS Whitewater Rafting/Camping Trip!

On Saturday, September 19th, we’ll head up to the Ocoee River in Benton, Tennessee to spend an afternoon rafting and then finish the day off with some food and friends, camping nearby.  In total, the trip will probably run from around 9am Saturday, Sept 19th through 2pm Sunday, Sept 20th.

For $25 for the weekend, you’ll get to:
•        Escape Tech and even the surrounding Atlanta area in favor of the great outdoors
•        White Water Raft one of the most challenging rivers in the southeast with trained guides (NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!)
•        Experience the wonders of spending an evening camping in tents (or a bunkhouse for those who don’t find sleeping on the ground so wondrous)
•        Enjoy the deliciousness that is all camp food (and beverages) for three meals

Anyone whose program of study is related to the Bioscience or Engineering (and is thus part of BBUGS!) is welcome to join in on this fantastic event.  Family and friends are also welcome, but will need to pay the full price of $45 to participate.

I am extremely pleased to announce that former San Diego area weatherman turned semi-private event-consultant-for-hire Brick Tamland has agreed to coordinate a series of skill-based events on behalf of BBUGS this year.  The first game of choice: flag football.

Our first game is this coming Monday, August 31st.  Please contact Brent (brent.uhrig@gatech.edu) if you are interested in playing.

We got enough replies of people interested in the football block, so we went ahead and created it. Registration for the blocks started today (registration works on stages depending on the number of credits you are taking), so I would recommend that you do so as soon as possible. All you need to do is this:

• Go to the online registration website (click here), register your GTID# in our block and DO NOT PAY ONLINE:

  • Password: 153
• Pay $36 (cash or checks to Rolando Gittens) to Rolo or Katie, or you can also give your money to Alyceson Andrews, in the IBB main offices. Payments are due before Tuesday, August 25^th.
• Join BBUGS for our tailgating events (more info to come) and watch the Yellow Jackets play great football with friends!
