The Division of Solid and Fluid Mechanics of the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health, Office of Science and Engineering Laboratories has an opening in Silver Spring, MD for a mechanical, materials, or biomedical (with mechanics and materials science concentration) engineer.  Experience with orthopedic or cardiovascular devices is highly desirable.  We are seeking people with expertise in solid mechanics, fatigue and fracture mechanics, experimental mechanics, materials science and engineering and forensic analyses of failed components.  We highly value laboratory experience including forensic analyses and experience with designing and constructing test fixtures.  We will consider candidates at the M.S., and Ph.D. levels, though preference will be given to Ph.D. level candidates.  The positions involve approximately 50% laboratory research and 50% consulting support for reviews of new medical devices and analyses of failures with existing devices.  U.S. citizenship and excellent speaking and writing skills are required.
